2nd Grade - Mitchell

Hello My Name Is...

Kristin Mitchell
Kristin Mitchell

I was born and raised in Indiana.  I did almost all of my growing up in South Bend.  When I graduated from high school, I spent my summers in northern Michigan and the rest of my year in Vermont attending UVM, and getting my BS in Elementary Education.

After graduation, I eventually moved Seattle.  I taught first grade for one year and was a substitute for another two.  During that last year in Seattle my parents decided to move to Kenya.  Not to be outdone, I joined the the Peace Corps.  As a Volunteer, I taught teachers in the Philippines to be more effective English teachers.  I worked one on one with teachers in far flung communities (up to a 24 hour boat ride away!) and I did large group workshops (200+ participants!).  It was an eye opening experience to say the least.

I finished my service and landed in Pittsburgh at a program full of other returned volunteers.  After earning my Master's in Social and Public Policy with a concentration in Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies, I moved to the Northern Virginia area.  I was lucky enough to get hired at Dogwood Elementary School in Reston, where I taught 4th grade for three years.

I met my husband in 2005 and we fled to Colorado.  We lived in Curtis Park (Denver) for two months before finding our home just up from the rodeo grounds here in Evergreen.  In the summer of 2009, our daughter Elsie joined us.  She is now in fourth grade at Wilmot and absolutely adores it.   We welcomed her baby brother Oliver in 2014.

During my first three years in Colorado, I worked in Golden at Welchester Elementary School.  I spent one year teaching 3rd grade and the next two teaching 6th.  I moved to Wilmot in 2008 and have taught 4th, 3rd, 5th, and now 2nd grade.  The 2018-2019 school year marks my 11th year at Wilmot and my 7th year in 2nd grade.

Thank you for sharing your children with me!
